11 APR 2012 - ACADEMY'S WIN AGAINST ECCY WIDENS GAP AT TOP OF LEAGUE
Adam Simpson's first half injury time goal proved to be the difference between the teams.
Unfortunately our usual correspondent John McCreery was unable to attend the match against Eccleshill. If you were there, and would like to supply a match report, this would be extremely welcome. Please e-mail it to:

The Dennybabes have opened a comfortable nine-point gap at the top of the league but there is still a job to be done if they are to secure the league title.
Thackley currently have 28 points from the 13 matches played so far. The gap to second-placed Liversedge is 9 points. By winning their final match of the season, Thackley can finish on 31 points but that might not be enough to seal the championship. Thackley are guaranteed at least second position, but …
Of the pursuing teams only Fields can prevent the Dennybabes taking the league title. Fields currently have 16 points but have played only 8 matches. If they win all six of their remaining games, Fields will finish on 34 points. and will win the title. But they cannot afford to drop any points. If they drop three points, they will finish on 31 points, potentially the same as Thackley and then it will come down to goal difference (or is it based on head to head? If you know, please post a comment below). Drop any more than three points, then they could hand the title to Thackley. If, that is, Thackley win their final game.
However, the mathematics is not as simple as all that. (Is it ever?)
Perhaps the most important factor, not mentioned above, is that the last game of the season takes place on 8th May, and is between … you've guessed it … Fields and Thackley. If by that time Fields have won their preceding five games, they will have 31 points. Thackley will still have 28 points because they don't play again until that match. If Thackley then win the final match, both teams will have level points and the championship will be decided on goal difference (or is it head to head? – see above).
All clear?
Webmaster will keep an eye on the matches still to be played by Fields between now and 8th May and will provide occasional updates on this site.
Whatever the final outcome, the U19s have done the club proud. But wouldn't it be nice just to have that trophy in the cabinet?
Come on Thackley!
