Thackley are on the road again on Wednesday evening for a rearranged game against Bottesford Town at the Birkdale Stadium. The original date for the fixture was 16th December but the game was called off due to a frozen pitch after Thackley had arrived at the ground. The Poachers are relative newcomers to the Premier Division having won promotion in 2016 after nine seasons in the First Division. They are currently in tenth position in the table and have taken ten points from their last five league games, so are in pretty good form at present. Bottesford were without a game on Saturday, however they were in action last Wednesday when they beat our local rivals Albion Sports 6-0.
Wednesday’s game will be the second meeting of the two sides this season; Bottesford visited Dennyfield at the beginning of September when Thackley ran out comfortable winners in the end, scoring four second half goals, a Joe Hughes hat trick, Dan Broadbent getting the fourth. In their first season in the Premier Division honours between the two sides were even, Thackley winning at Birkdale Park and Bottesford gaining revenge with a win at Dennyfield.
Thackley too are in good form at the moment, winning their last four games. These victories have just about got them clear of the relegation battle and they will be hoping to continue this good run on Wednesday night. Mid week away matches always seem a little more difficult to win than Saturday games and Thackley will certainly have to put in a performance if they want any chance of continuing their current successful run.
