Thackley play their final home game of this extended season on Saturday when Rainworth Miners Welfare are the visitors to Dennyfield. The Wrens started the season well but results have tailed off somewhat recently, however, they are still assured of a place in the top half of the table. Recently they have announced that they are dropping out of the league to play at a lower level more in keeping with the club’s resources. Rainworth returned to the Northern Counties East League in 2015 after spending five years in the Northern Premier League. Thackley edge the honours between the two sides since their return, winning three of the five games played. Last year they completed the double over the Wrens but Rainworth were the victors in this season’s encounter at Kirklington Road in October.
The Wrens are not in the best of form at the moment picking up just six points from their last seven games. They were knocked out of the League Cup at the quarter final stage on Monday night by Liversedge, the game level after ninety minutes and Sedge getting two goals in the second period of extra time.
Thackley too are struggling to build on their point’s tally, after four consecutive victories, which lifted them out of relegation battle, they have won just once in their last eight games. They have found goals hard to come by in that time scoring just six in those games. They are now safe from relegation but will want to finish as high up the table as possible. Saturday’s game gives them the chance to reward their supporters and to end their home matches on a high.
Saturday’s game is sponsored by Saltaire’s newest drinking establishment ‘The Salt Cellar’.
