There have been some queries about the security of Gocardless for membership payments online.
To reassure you, we have been using this system for a couple of years now to collect hockey club membership fees and payments for event tickets, and it is a secure and trusted method used by countless sports clubs and larger businesses.
You can read more about Gocardless security here: https://gocardless.com/security/
GoCardless is used by more than 25,000 businesses, and uses military grade encryption to keep your details safe. It's also regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
The payment information you enter online includes your bank account details because this can be used to setup a Direct Debit. However, as a club, we only request single payments for our membership fees, so the details you give them are used only for each single transaction.
When you pay for different items through the website over time, you will be asked to re-enter your account details and confirm authorisation each time. It’s a bit like Paypal - fully encrypted and secure, and no money can be taken without your authority for each payment.
I hope that reassures you, but if you have any further queries, please do contact any member of the Committee using the contacts page on the website.
