The Cast of Baywatch visit Marbella RFC

All TRFC Tourists,

Marbs RFC have put a mini tour report on their website which I though you'd want to read (http://www.marbellarugbyclub.com/?p=2281&lang=en)

By the sounds of things they had as good a day as we did and Castro has stuck as Hector's new name which means we've left our mark with at least one member of the FRC........

Their report reads:

THE CAST OF BAY WATCH VISIT MARBELLA RUGBY CLUB
On Saturday the 21st April 2012 members of Marbella Rugby Club were surprised to see the arrival of the cast of Bay Watch at the Club ground.

The players, dressed as famous members of the cast of the television series “Bay Watch” starring David Hasselhoff are otherwise known as Thatcham RUFC. They were without doubt the most entertaining team we have hosted here at Bahia Marbella in years. The touring party consisted of 2 teams to play against Marbella’s VETS & Senior teams. In the end, after eyeing up the young VETS (or perhaps better named future VETS) from Thatcham it was decided that the first match would be a Social mix up with a more serious Senior encounter to follow.

Once the first match was underway amidst cheers & banter from the stands, the fun continued on the pitch. The teams were evenly balanced & at one point, for some reason unknown to those of us on the sidelines, both sides had 16 men on the pitch. It was a pleasure to see players of all ages (from U-18s to VETS) enjoying their rugby & how proud our seasoned VET Chris Grenfell was to play rugby alongside his 2 sons, Sean (Senior) & Callum (U-18). This friendly encounter was eventually won by Marbella by 25 – 15, although the visitors were graciously awarded the win by the Marbella players as a reward for playing in the most fun match of the season so far.

To follow was the Senior match, when matters became much more serious & competitive. This was a tough battle which ended in a tight margin (Marbella 22 Vs 25 Thatcham). The spectators were entertained with some wonderful moments of “champagne” rugby & “big hits” alongside trys for Marbella from Sean, Maxi, Stefano & Kike. Once again the travelling spectators had a few songs to sing & words of encouragement/banter to utter towards the players taking part. A particular favourite was the re-naming of Hector to his new name of Castrogiavani.

Once the matches were over, all the players enjoyed a paella & a few beers together which led to some post match entertainment including songs, a dramatic sprinkler rescue in the style of Bay Watch & the crowd favourite, “Sumo” & “Goofy” taking part in naked Sumo wrestling.

According to our sources the fun did not end at the rugby club and some Marbella players are said to have met up with the Thatcham tour in Puerto Banus where they enjoyed more rugby tour shenanigans until the early hours.

Lastly we would like to ask anyone who left behind floats, wigs, yellow vests & song books to get in touch with the tour organiser to arrange your appropriate fine.

Sarah the Club Secretaria emailed me today thanking us for being great tourists and she's sent me 322 phots which I'll put together with ours over the weekend for those that want them.

Thanks again from Damo and I to all that took the time to come to Marbs and Banus and for making the weekend one that will never be forgotten - I think even Grandad enjoyed himself........

TRFC expanding from the best team in Berkshire to the best team in Europe love to all!!

Billi x
