U12 Stripes vs Barton Rovers Rangers
Close first half, but chances taken by Barton in second half
A home game played at Lower Way saw a tightly contested and well fought first half. Barton took the lead but Stripes responded with a goal from Henry, and it was real end to end football. George in his debut for U12 Stripes made some great saves, and was very brave coming out to collect the ball very effectively. The rest of the team showed good commitment and were unlucky to end the half trailing by a goal.
Second half started brightly too, an excellent run down the wing by Callum H, fantastic tackling and blocking by Bo throughout, working well with Kian in defence. Callum F and Daniel F brought some good energy to the game and never gave up, while Alfie and Joshua did their best to trouble the Barton keeper and defenders at every opportunity. James and Harry made their presence felt in midfield, and James was unlucky with a shot firing over the cross bar. Callum A made some good blocks and interceptions out on pitch and as ever volunteered to take a turn in goal so George could have a run out - I really felt for Callum A as he was so unlucky with timing, not his fault but Barton hit an unstoppable goal into the net, and were then awarded a penalty. I think it's fair to say our heads dropped a little towards the end after this, and Barton took full advantage to break and score several times.
It's easy to say, but this really was a game where the scoreline did not reflect how close the game was. A1 to Stripes for their effort and commitment - I was really pleased with this performance, and player of the week went to George.
Thanks to Karen and Janine for manning the tea stand, to Dave B for running the line, and all parents who helped put up and take down the goals.
