Thatcham Tornadoes Under 12 girls away to Tilehurst Panthers
A crunch game that determined the girls final position in the league
A brief report today as I didn't have my book and pen!
Nine girls showed up full of excitement and confidence, as the sky threatened rain. We focussed on positivity in this game. I hadn't seen the girls for a while, so I asked them to support, encourage and praise each other, which they managed despite their evident exhaustion towards the end.
The unity of our team and their determination to conquer the league is what won them the game in the end, with excellent goalkeeping and defending from both teams, it could have been a close game, but Sophie, who worked incredibly hard as a striker, falling right back, time and again (false 9 style!) to retrieve loose balls and work her magic with them. Sophie scored a well deserved first goal for the team, taking time and placing the ball out of reach of the keeper. Poppy scored our second after working like a trooper in the middle, the ball was delivered to her feet by an awkward goal kick from the opposition.
We were two nil up by half time and I was so impressed by how we stayed strong, as Tilehurst picked up the pace in the second half.
The defenders (and keepers) were my stars today, Evie, Ruby and Bo worked the pitch well, covered for each other, provided options for throw ins and used all their might to protect the scoreline! Great work girls.
Ruby was my star today, she has shown a gradual increase in confidence and skill throughout the year, using all parts of her body to control and sensibly place the ball. She takes time and responds very well to instructions. Ruby made a particularly valiant tackle today, sprinting back with an approaching player and skilfully taking out the ball (which toppled the player) averting a potential crisis. Ruby came off the pitch with a muddy ball print across her face, but still wearing a smile, great work Rubes!
