The lads benefitted from two free tickets to Tuesday's 3-0 win over Woodley United in the league, won by Jack's mum in a raffle put on by Newbury hair salon Roderick Anthony in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The club were only too pleased to donate the tickets and a shirt signed by the first team in support of a great charity.
We caught up with Jack and Conor at half-time to find out what they were making of the experience.
Q: Is it your first time at Waterside Park?
JR: I knew Thatcham FC existed, but have never been here.
CO'N: No, never been before.
Q: Are you Thatcham born and bred?
JR: No, I'm from Newbury.
Q: Ah, so we're stretching your allegiances away from Newbury?
JR: [laughing] I can't say I follow Newbury to be honest!
Q: What do you think of the first half and what you've seen so far?
JR: It's been better than I was expecting in terms of standard. The number 11 (Josh Helmore) has been looking good down this left wing and connecting well with the number 3 (Tom Browne), and the team have been absolutely dominating so not a bad first game.
Q: Will you come again?
JR: Well I'm going travelling for a year but I don't see why I wouldn't when I'm back... when they've been promoted.
CO'N: I'm not going travelling so I'm sure I'll come again.
Q: Who do you support?
JR: Reading.
Q: So you could have gone to the Mad Stad tonight?
JR: Yeah but came here instead, to my true local team.
Q: So, it's 2-0 at half time. What's your prediction for the final score?
JR: 4-0.
Q: Based on the 45 minutes that you've seen, what do you think of Thatcham's prospects for the season?
JR: Very good. I don't know what's expected of them, but I know that Thatcham are undefeated and second in the league. I don't know where the opposition are in the table or if they should be winning this one, but it's looking promising...
Q: They're looking good; they haven't let in a goal all season.
JR: Oh wow, well Thatcham are looking very good then.
