The story of a Kent and Mote cricketer

David Sayer died last year and lived in the Maidstone area for most of his life. During his cricketing career, he played 204 first-class matches (154 for Kent), taking a total of 613 wickets.
A special talent, he played with and against the best players of his era and was ranked among the fastest bowlers in the country. In 1955 he played for England schools and for Kent while still at the Maidstone Grammar School. He gained three Blues for Oxford University, played twice for the Gentlemen against the Players at Lords’ and went on two MCC overseas tours.

He took two hat tricks, one against Kent and the other for Kent against Glamorgan at the Mote where he played his club cricket after leaving Kent.

His fascinating life story, including schooldays and national service, has been written by local author Ian Lambert and is supported by statistics, photographs and recollections from family and friends. A delightful foreword has been written by his Kent colleague and West Indian Test Player John Shepherd.

The book is available from Ian (E-mail lambertsontour@gmail.com) and the Kent County shop at Canterbury - Price £10 + £2 p&p and all proceeds will be used to provide a fitting cricketing tribute to the memory of David.
