The B team win promotion out of division 6. The A team perform well in division 1.

Thirsk U12 B team had a great morning at Leeds Adel combining both a series of convincing scores with great hockey that developed as the morning went on. The boys faced teams from Airedale, Wakefield, Bingley Bees, Sheffield Uni Bankers and York. The game plan for the day was simple – pass it rather than try and dribble through three defenders, work hard for each other by being in space for a pass and play as wide as possible. The boys played well in the first game and just got better with every match. Callum and Sebastian did very well tackling first time, marking up attackers quickly and feeding the midfield with quick passes. Cameron and Archie worked very hard in midfield with Archie emptying the tank in every game covering back very quickly, tackling everything that came near him and Cameron working high with the forwards & combining well to get his first goal as an U12. Harry and Jack caused all sorts of problems up front combining on numerous occasions to move the ball around keepers and scoring on average 4 goals a match between them. Thirsk played 5, won 5 scoring 20 goals and conceded none and whilst our keeper Oliver had a quiet day thanks to the team in front of him he kept our defence focused by being the extra eyes at the back & played numerous games on loan to other teams and made many saves. Well done boys.

The U12 A's were surprised to find themselves in the A league, after finishing fourth in the B league last time out, and based on our performance in the Yorkshire Cup against Harrogate and York A's the week before confidence was not high.
Our prediction couldn't have been anymore inaccurate? The boys played brilliantly, being narrowly beaten by Harrogate 1-0, drawing with Leeds 3-3 after going 3-0 down and being robbed against Doncaster 1-0. A result which the Leeds umpire said was unjust as we were the better team by far. Thirsk also lost to Sheffield Hallam 1-0. As a result they will drop to Division 2 for the next round.
I must mention Jacob who won the players player, excellent keeping all morning. The coaches award went to Sam 'the flyer' on the wing, who consistently cut open the opposition with his pace and delivered several perfect balls into the d. Sadly we weren't able to convert many of them! Something to work on this Friday evening.
