The second game of the season, and Thirsk 2nds took on Halifax 3rds at home. Thirsk had a perfect start as Karen Skippings converted a dream cross in from Lucy Williams within a minute and soon doubled the score after some persistant battling within the Halifax D. With the score at 2 : 0 a strong shot on goal caused a nasty injury to a Halifax defender who had to leave the game; this left Halifax down to 10 for the rest of the game. Constant pressure being built beautifully from the mid-field by Annabel Hill, Lucy Williams and Ella Durkin produced a third goal by half time.
Thirsk maintained constant pressure throughout the second half, Gina Garnett stepping up well in her first ladies game to link with a strong forward line. Thirsks’ well drilled short corner routine played its part again on match day producing 2 more goals and a further 3 goals coming from strong teamwork to work the Halifax defence.
