Just 11 is still enough!
Saturday 1st December saw Thirsk 2nds play away versus Doncaster 3rds. Thirsk travelled with just the eleven players and no subs knowing they would by in for a tough game with Doncaster currently above them in the league table.
The first half started fairly evenly with Thirsk creating a number of chances with first time shots especially from Fern, which the Doncaster keeper was just able to keep out. When Doncaster did break on Thirsk and create chances the strong defensive unit of Jade, Hannah and Oona with Lynne positioned just in front of the defence keeping them at bay. Molly had a very good game on the right of midfield both attacking and defending giving the Doncaster attacker no respite which earned her the player of the match award. The majority of the play was down the right side where Molly linked with Marnie and Georgie with support play from Hannah and Naomi. At the half time break the score was still 0-0.
The second half continued the same way with Thirsk having the better chances. This lead to the first goal of the game. A lovely move the full length of the pitch with Hannah playing the ball to Molly then led to Marnie running half the length of the right wing before putting a perfect ball to the penalty spot for Georgie to finish, giving the goalkeeper no chance. Doncaster came back at Thirsk pressing for an equiliser but the young Thirsk team held firm. Doncaster's best change fell to their forward who flicked the ball at goal only for Thirsk goalkeeper Chelsea to push away with an excellent save. Thirsk held onto the ball until the final whistle winning the game 1-0. Hannah would like to add that the shepherds pie for tea was excellent!
