More determined play in the ladies seconds keeps them top of division 4.

Thirsk Ladies 2nds traveled to Huntington to play York 4th team on Saturday 18th October expecting a hard fought match. And it started as such. Both sides were quickly onto any loose ball and tackles were firm. However Thirsk began to string their passing together and played some well worked drives into the York D which initially were unable to be converted. Then, after a short corner goal mouth scramble Nicky Young found the goal and Thirsk were on their way. Bev Petty poached off the keepers pads for a second short corner goal and Annabel Hill demonstrated the perfect short corner straight strike to complete the set. Despite the mid-field dominance by Thirsk, York maintained a strong threat and broke on several occasions only to be denied by Ella Durkin, Helen King and Keeper Beth Harrison-Wright.
The second half continued in a similar vein but with the U16 girls rotating subs to save their legs for the EHB cup the following day and Karen Skippings and Kate Seymour showing huge versatility to play centre back and centre forward in the same game. Gina Watkins added to the force of the midfield enabling Annabel to add another goal to her tally and Lucy Williams was finally rewarded with a goal after her characteristic determination and skill took her into the York D on countless occasions. York did continue to pose a threat and scored two well worked goals in the second half. Thirsk had one final moment to add as a long ball through was beautifully deflected past the keeper for Bev Petty’s second goal. 6-2 to Thirsk.
Scorers: Annabel Hill 2, Bev Petty 2, Nic Young 1 and Lucy Williams 1
Player of the match was awarded to Lucy Williams
