The Thirsk boys travelled to Barnsley, and included were debutants Oliver Hildreth and James Houseman, along with “the wizard” Otis Williams. The first opponents were Airedale, and the lads were soon able to dominate with great interplay from Otis, Oliver Houseman, James Foster and Arthur Hunt. The deadlock was broken with Arthur scoring a nice reverse hit shot, Otis added a brace, before James completed the 4-0 win, squeezing the ball in at the rear post.
Next up were Ben Rhydding, and this was a more closely contested game. The defence had a lot more to do. Paddy Medley, led the line well, along with James, and Alex Docherty snubbing out most of the Rhydding attacks. Luke Brownlee was called upon to make two fine saves. Thirsk won the game 1-0, with a fine passing move resulting in the goal. Paddy clearing to Sam Bosomworth, he linked with Otis, who beat one man before putting Arthur through, and he neatly beat the goalkeeper.
The final game was against Wakefield, and in this game Thirsk played their best team hockey. They used all parts of the pitch and created many chances. Wakefield were indebted to their fine goalkeeper for several fine saves. However Thirsk were able to beat him on three occasions, with Arthur getting 2, and Oliver the other. So a comfortable 3-0 win for Thirsk, which gave them 3 out of 3, and promotion for the next set of matches. Well done to all, a good step forward.
