Thornes Juniors U9 Colts have opened their first season together with a great 2-1 win over Airedale FC Blues. It was a fantastic game, with good football being played by both teams.
An early goal from Isaac Broughton, gave Thornes the lead. Airedale FC Blues fought back, but the excellent tackling of Mayson Edwards and Aaron Laws, and some top quality saves from Thornes Goalkeeper Isaac Mortock prevented the home side from finding an equaliser before the half time break.
With pressure building up from some great attacking moves in the second half, Airedale eventually hit the back of the net to make the score 1-1.
Thornes started to play better football and matched the opposition. Some great dribbling from Isaac Broughton, who then found Thomas Threlfall with a killer pass. Threlfall took his chance and finished. His first goal for the club was enough to bring the 3 points back to Queens Drive.
An entertaining game to watch and a very impressive performance from both the Thornes and Airedale teams.
MOM was awarded to Thornes Captian Mayson Edwards for his bravery and the example he set to his teammates.
