Thornes Juniors FC entered the world of disability football in 2016. With support from WRCFA we set up a Saturday morning coaching session, initially over four sessions. The first week four players came along and this number became ten by the end of the programme, and continues to grow slowly. We are learning a lot from our new players; determination, reliability, enthusiasm and no little amount of skill too. More importantly we are learning different ways of communication and what it means for the players to be part of a mainstream football club. Feedback from parents has been really positive and we hope that the word spreads so that other families find out about our sessions.
The training sessions for 'Thornes Strikers' are outdoor at Queens Drive until the winter cold weather kicks in, when we will go indoors, and run every forthnight. It’s from 10-11am and all newcomers welcome, boys or girls. There are three coaches - Karl, Neil and Mark - and Vicky who is sorting all of the administration, including arrangements for tournament fun days at other clubs.
Thornes Strikers are a valued and respected section of Thornes Juniors Football Club and we hope it continues to develop with the involvement of more members.
