Our newly assembled U17 Colts team overcame a very difficult and bruising encounter in their first friendly, when they travelled to Beeston FC this morning.
A fine long range effort from Shane Kilburn separated the sides in a first half which saw Thornes as the better team.
The Colts had to absorb some pressure after the interval and against the run of play, a smart quick free kick from Jack Wood released Calkum Killian down the left flank. His electric pace left the full back behind and his finish was exceptional.
Beeston were awarded a dubious penalty which was saved heroically by Davy Ramsdale but they did manage to scramble a goal shortly after.
Thornes were exceptional today and great credit must go to all the players for their part in a fine win.
Man of the match was jointly awarded to both, Ethan Chapman and Curtis Exley for their towering performances in the centre of defence, but everyone should be very proud of their efforts.
Thornes U17 Colts start their league season away to a Garforth Rangers next Sunday.
