West End Terriers U16's 4-4 Thornes Juniors U16's

Thornes started brightly putting West End Terriers under early pressure. This pressure paid off after 10 minutes when a quick Jed Firth throw in on the right caught West End napping, allowing Alex Tunningley to smash home the opening goal at the near post. Unfortunately for Thornes their lead didn't last long. Immediately after they scored, hesitation in the Thornes defence allowed West End in to equalise. This set up an end to end first half with further chances for both teams. Brook Slater met a Thornes corner well but his headed effort was saved well by the West End keeper. Thornes once again had keeper Ellis Pickard to thank for keeping the scores level with a brilliant reflex save halfway through the first half. It was Thornes however who would grab the lead. Dalton Jackson crossed well from the right, Jed Firth flicked on and once again Alex Tunningley finished well. Thornes took this 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

It was West End who started the second half stronger though. The equaliser came when Thornes failed to defend a ball over the top and West End went through to score. Thornes failed to learn their lesson and were caught out again shortly after in a similar fashion, moving West End into the lead 3-2. West End were clearly on top during this stage of the game and managed to extend their lead even further after another defensive error by Thornes. The scoring wasn't over there however and Thornes managed to grab one back. Jed Firth pressurised the West End defence into a mistake as their defender managed to knock the ball past his own keeper. This set up a thrilling finish with the score at 4-3 to the home side. Thornes thought they had equalised when Alex Nolan met a corner on the volley but his spectacular effort rattled the crossbar. They continued to press however, Josh Cameron-Edwards and Kamil Jurczyk combining well down the right, eventually the ball falling to Jurczyk on the edge of the box who smashed home a spectacular equaliser with only a couple of minutes left on the clock. Neither side could manage a winning goal, both having to settle for a point in this 4-4 thriller!
