Thornes U17's 6-1 Durkar

Thornes made a very impressive return to the league programme with an emphatic 6-1 victory at home to local rivals Durkar FC.

A sloppy start again saw Thornes go behind in the first five minutes to a close range strike, followed by 25 minutes of poor football.

Thornes finally got the equaliser when Eddie Morton went one on one with the very impressive visitor's 'keeper and rolled it under him into an empty net.

A handball in tbe box from a long throw in by Jack Whittaker saw midfielder Jacob Parsons calmly stroke the penalty home and a third from Alex Bailey Lee saw the home side take a firm hold of the game.

Thorne's fourth goal was a powerful header from skipper David Rushton, having been found with a pinpoint free kick from Luke Townend.

The fifth, after the interval saw Eddie Morton grab his second goal and tbe final goal was calmly dispatched by Joe Craig.

In all, a satisfying start to the New Year pushing the side up to 6th place in Div 1.

Newstrack Newsagents Man of the Match went to Luke Townsend who has been steadily improving all season and today was majestic. James Parkinson also played very well ,as did Eddie Morton.
