Boxing Day Game Match Report

Thorney RUFC 70 Bourne RUFC 10

Thorney and Bourne rugby clubs came together on Boxing Day at the Ron Jacobs Playing field for the annual charity game, with the opportunity to work off some off that Christmas dinner both sides fieled large squads with over 50 players taking part in the festive contest.

It was Thorney who opened the scoring racing into a 19 -0 lead within the first 20 minutes, Bourne hit back after some loose defending by Thorney to get on the score board 19 – 5.

Even with everyone full of Christmas pudding the game was played at quite a pace, with no kicking aloud this made for an entertaining game with both side having to run the ball from all over the park which certainly blew the cobwebs out!!!

Most of the game was played in the right humor with festive banter being exchanged between both sides, Thorney looked the stronger side for most of the game opening up a healthy lead before the break 40 -5

Bourne put some strong phases of play together through the second half securing there second try of the game 5 minutes from the end to make the final score 70 – 10.

All the players and supporters retired to the ex-serviceman’s to continue with the Christmas celebrations where the Thorney president Stuart Lloyd made a short presentation to inform everyone that the game had raised over two hundred pounds for charity
