Sad news

Elwyn Nicol

It is with great sadness to report that Elwyn passed away peacefully in a Hospice in London on Friday 14th November 2014.

He moved to London several years ago, but never lost touch with TCRUFC. He was President of the club (1985 – 1992), was a player for all the teams and a clubman through and through.

His health suffered in recent years and he underwent a heart transplant, but this did not diminish his enthusiasm or sense of humour, but medical problems recurred and proved too much to fight.

There will be a service for his friends down South, but Elwyn expressed a wish to be cremated at Carleton Crematorium, where he felt he would be close to his parents. He also wanted any wake to be held at the rugby club, and though the old hut has gone Elwyn would have enjoyed the camaraderie now enjoyed at The Ashley.

On a personal note, I first met Elwyn when we were members of TC Round Table in the late 1970’s. Our children played together at family functions and it was my son starting mini rugby – his first match being refereed by Elwyn –that led me to start playing for TC Vets. I pushed Elwyn from the rear in the scrum for nearly a decade and in return he “supported” me (no lifting allowed) in the line out. It was a great time.

Elwyn lived life to the full and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go to his wife and children.
