A review of the Robbie 10's Tournament.

Having spent the best part of 8 weeks building up from another hugely successful Touch Rugby Tournament and into Pre-Season training the TCRUFC lads were raring for some competitive action to once again hone their bodies to the rigour and demands of our gladiatorial sport.

The first taste of this came in the annual Robbie 10's Tournament. With late drop outs the field consisted of two teams provided by Bury RUFC, two TC RUFC teams and the honorary invititaional team which this year was Beachers Badgers.

With the weather a marginal improvement on last years, the tournament kicked off with TC Black vs Bury 1's. If any one thought that Bury had come to make up the numbers this thought was quickly dismissed as their quick and powerful team quickly swept through the TC Black team and recorded the first win. It was a marker for the day ahead which saw Bury 1's perform excellently at the reduced numbers game.

As the morning progressed the remaining teams battled it out on a relatively even keel however it was Beachers Badgers who surprised many, showed their prowess around the park and registered a flawless record setting up a showdown match between themselves and Bury 1's.

The game lived up to it's billing. Beachers Badgers drawing first blood with 3 well worked tries before Bury found their way back into the game. In the end though the Badgers pulled through and recorded the victory.

The teams then took a break from proceedings for a well earned Beer and a Cheeseburger before moving on to the afternoon.

As the afternoon wore on Bury 2's appeared to have conceded and withdrawn from the tournament due to injuries however the spirit of the day showed through with players from all sides donning the Bury colours to ensure the team had the numbers to continue to play.

The mini leagues finished with Beachers Badgers edging it over Bury 1's. TC Red and Black shared 3rd and 4th positions respectively and Bury 2's received the wooden spoon and were eliminated from the final competition.

The plate was held between TC Red and TC Black. TC Black made a blistering start quickly scoring howvere TC red then took the ascendancy and with determination took the victory.

The Cup competion was a rematch between Beachers Badgers and Bury 1's. The game was again extremely competitive and evenly fought until Beachers Badgers found the extra gear and raced into a 10-0 lead courtesy of two well worked tries. Bury 1's then scored on the stroke of half time with a quick tap and charge over the line from a penalty making it precariously close for the Badgers at half time. Into the second half and Beachers Badgers once again extended their lead after some good forward work culminated in a try. As the half wore on Bury surged into the Badgers half and with seconds left scored a try, kicking the conversion to leave a one point deficiti (the score 15-14). However before the kick off could occur the referee signalled time and Beachers Badgers stole away with the victory.

The end of the tournament presentation awards were undertaken by Adam Lloyd who was once again by Robbies father and once again served to remind why we all come together on this day to pay tribute to a special man and friend in the way he would have seen fit.

A special mention of thanks must go to Bury RUFC who provided excellent competition throughout the day and entered into the spirit of the Robbie 10's.
