NEWLY FORMED THORNTON THREES THRILL AT FLEETWOOD
The surge in numbers and new players has culminated in Thornton forming a third team for the first time in many, many years.
A game was arranged against Fleetwood 4ths, which was played on the pitches behind the Nautical College in Fleetwood.
Thornton-Cleveleys 3rds scored the opening try after Grant Dillon touched down 5 minutes into game. The conversion was missed.
The next try came 10 minutes later as Danny Smith made a crashing run with some great support from Jack Buzzer. The conversion was missed.
Fleetwood scored their first try 20 minutes into the game then another just before half time.
Thornton hooker Tom Adams had a try disallowed for dropping the ball just before touching it down. What followed was great end to end rugby from both teams who were very well matched.
After half time Grant Dillon scored his second of the game with great forwards support. The majority of the second half was played at Fleetwoods end but they held Thornton out until Tom Adams broke through again and scored this time for real. A big thanks to the new lads that turned up and made this game possible.
Captain's Man of the Match goes to prop Danny Smith (pictured) and hero of the day was Grant Dillon.
Greg Aston stepped up and played well at scrum half in his first game of the season. Thanks also to Fleetwood 4ths for playing us in this friendly and to referee Sam Cockroft who stepped in a short notice.
Final score Fleetwood 4ths 12 - 20 Thornton-Cleveleys 3rds 20. Outstanding by all players.
