4. Geofrey Clifford Shaw 1933-2006

Geof Shaw was a member of Thrumpton CC for almost 60 years and a player for over 40 years.

As a youth member in the 1940s his first task was carrying the kit when the team travelled to away matches by public transport! Geof was a medium pace bowler who took over 100 wickets during several seasons, was a competent bat and a regular team captain.

In 1997, when he had retired from playing cricket, he was asked to form a Kwik cricket section at Thrumpton, which he did with his wife Rae. Geof qualified as a youth coach and the Thrumpton Kwick cricket programme became one of the most successful in the County.

Over the years Geof regularly took teams to demonstrate Kwick cricket in the lunch interval at Trent Bridge during Test Matches. His success with the Kwiks has led to the thriving youth programme which is now part of Thrumpton Cricket Club. Geof's aim was to teach youngsters to love the game of cricket whatever their ability. The Kwik cricket programme continues to thrive and grow at Thrumpton and is a great tribute to Geof.

The Cricket Club was a big part of Geof's life, he helped with money raising, groundwork and anything else he was called upon to do.

"We continue to miss him".
