2nd June 1894 saw Thrumpton cross the river to play Attenborough a team that is still an opposition today.

Their first known game was back in 1827. They were reformed in 1905 and one of the club’s leading early players was Walter Speak who lived in Attenborough from 1896 to 1912.

His most famous record was taking all ten wickets (10 for 20) in a match against Dejan & Parkers in July, 1910.

Notorious at the time as a bowler he also turned out many times for the village of Barton and played one known game for Thrumpton against the Post Office taking 8 wickets for 24 runs.

He played 3 games for Nottinghamshire and was probably
the only pre 1900 player that played in first class cricket and also for Thrumpton
