Following his appointment at last nights AGM, here is a message from the New Thrumpton CC Chairman Mark Priestley!

It is a fantastic honour for me to be appointed the new Chairman of Thrumpton Cricket Club, taking over from my Mum who has done a fine job over a number of years.

I am following some big characters including Trevor Vennett Smith, Bill Alexander and of course my Dad.

Thrumpton Cricket Club is a big part of my life!

My first full season was when i was 9 years old and I continued playing until I finished after the 2016 season, a total of 42 years.

In that time I have played in the same team as some Proper Thrumpton Legends: Bob & Andy Pick, Wally & Steve Pepper, Geof Shaw, Ivan Adkin, Dave Gant and of course my Dad.

I also had the pleasure of playing with my own son, Harry, although I'm not sure he would agree as the last time we batted together I ran him out !!!

I have also had the honour of captaining a number of teams including the Sunday side, the 2nds (who I led to winning the league in both 2009 & 2010) and also the 3rd team.

Hopefully my tenure as Chairman will also be a success, but I can't do it on my own.

I will need every member of the committee to help me make The Badgers successful both on and off the pitch.

We need new players so we don't have the same problem as last season when the 2nd team had to cancel 3 games because we couldn’t raise a side and as a result we had to reapply to the league for 2018.

We need ideas for fundraising events so the club can prosper.

We need volunteers to help run the bar and help at the ground.

Obviously these jobs are open to ALL MEMBERS not just the same old faces on the committee.

My first job will be to get new people on board to hopefully take the pressure off those who do so much behind the scenes.

It sounds corny but Thrumpton Cricket Club is everyones Club and the more people who help out the better the club will be.

Lets hope we have a fantastic 2018 season both on and off the field.

COME ON YOU BADGERS !!!!
