Over the last year the search for Thrumpton Cricket Club history has got harder. The search has almost come to a standstill.

What happens next The British Library release more newspapers up to the year 1950 and there in an article entitled “Cricket thrives in Thrumpton” is the averages for 1949.

Just recently an 1893 scorecard was found but generally the search is drying up.

Then thanks to Ken Bloor of Plumtree CC some articles are found in Bunny church from the Deanery magazine giving details of games before and after 1900.

The search is back on. What is the Deanery magazine. When was it printed and where? These were generally recognized as parish magazines and started in January 1859.

It contained general interest material, often with a strong moralising edge. The idea was that this inset should be offered to parishes to include within their own localised covers, which would very often comprise no more than four printed pages.

They comprised of births, deaths and marriages and topical news from the local village churches in the area. Little snippets could be found on events at the time.

Gotham, Thrumpton, Barton, Sutton Bonnington were in the same deanery and the magazine gave an insight into village life in the area.

Luckily for Thrumpton the writer of the articles seemed to be a cricket lover and was probably responsible for the forming of the Cricket Club.
