The early 1900s saw Barton become a force to be reckoned with.

At the same time Thrumpton began to struggle and by the end of 1905 the club disbanded
The strength of Barton seemed to tempt the better Thrumpton players to sway their allegiance to the neighbouring village team.

Players like F Tacey and G Holmes had taken their fair share of wickets for Thrumpton in the past.

The Barton captain Walter Speak was renown for his wicket taking and this enabled him to be selected first for Notts Colts along with W Rice and then later for Nottinghamshire first team playing 3 games.

The end of season Barton prizegiving for 1904 reports: --

On Saturday 24th September 1904, 86 members and friends of the above club sat down to an excellent supper in the school.

The rector distributed prizes to those members who had been most instrumental in winning 18 victories for the club during the season.

The prizes for batting was won by W Speak (the captain) and W Rice and those for bowling by F Tacey and G Holmes. J Chadburn won the prize for fielding.

The club which was founded in 1840 and is now in a most flourishable condition thanks to its excellent Secretary, Captain and Treasurer. The Rector on congratulating the club said he was proud to be the President of such a club and considered it did an immense amount of good in the village.

The performance of the Captain W Speak who secured 105 wickets at an average of 5 runs a piece is one which the village should be justly proud.

As Thrumpton struggled Barton were going from strength to strength and supplied their fair share of players to Notts Colts.

In 1905 another report read

The following extract from the Indian Field newspaper may interest some of our readers as showing how well the Barton Cricket Club is represented by one of its members in Calcutta.

In describing a match between the Zingari and Calcutta clubs at which there was a crowd of 12000 spectators present, it goes on to describe CL Hodgson of the Kings Own regiment partnered with the captain for a very anxious 50 minutes and saved the match scoring 25 not out.
