Out with the old went an unfit captain John Richardson and in with the new came a revitalised new leader in his boy Joe Richardson. At 20 years of age the club put their trust in the youngest captain in the league with a decision much welcomed by his team mates.

At one of the prettiest and well kept grounds that was more like entering Harrogate Flower Show and definitely a credit to the groundstaff, Joe won the toss and elected to bat. It wasn’t long before the decision looked a dubious one as the team toiled to 25 for the loss of 4 quick wickets in the first 40 minutes.

At this point in form batsman Arpan Desai decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck and went on a demolition display of the bowling attack. With support from Zaf Iqbal (16) and Samir Ahmed (24) plus a sprained ankle he scored 114 runs in 102 balls in 117 minutes.

Not intending to do much running he hit 18 x 4s and 4 x 6s to total 96 runs in boundaries. A fantastic Innings that was well supported at the latter end by a classy knock from wicketkeeper Jonty Rye who played some glorious shots to all parts of the ground with none of these of the agricultural type.

Another quality tea, saw the team come out to field and with a few of the team suffering from the night before it saw some various stretching exercises that were a cross between Pilates and Yoga but looked more like some of the players laying an egg or haemmorhoid loosening.

The score of 222 was a challenging one and with the weather alternating between July sun to a cold February night the Hucknall openers began to build a steady partnership of 50 without loss at a rate of 5 an over in the first 10 overs.

At this point the captain played his trump card by bringing on chief spinning ace Mohammed Aleem. At 59 he broke the opening partnership and kept picking up wickets at vital times to rip the heart out of the Hucknall batting. One by one the wickets fell and on this form Mohammad Aleem was unplayable finishing his 12 overs with 7 wickets for 46 runs with Kammie, the perfect foil at the other end taking the other 2.

A great win for the new captain with 2 man of the match performances.

The only downside is that Arpan is unavailable next week as he is best man at a wedding. The club will be looking into the possibilities of getting the wedding moved to a different date
