After being forced to bowl Thrumpton never really looked at the races. Chasing the ball around the park for 40 overs was not too fun but the bowlers stuck at it.

However Mountsorrel posted what was to be an insurmountable score of 263-9 from their 40 overs. Billy Lavelle leading wicket taker with 3 wickets (won’t mention how many runs he went for). Nathan Udall also bowled well considering it was the first time he had seen a cricket ball since last September, picking up 2 wickets for his troubles.

After being well fed at tea, Thrumpton got off to a bad start, Steve Weightman snicking off second ball. In came Shiraz Kayani who, along with skipper Jonty Rye, just wanted some time in the middle. The pair put on 94 for the second wicket with Shiraz trapped in front of the wicket by off spinner Merlin, going for 45.

Rye then chanced his arm at a few wide ones, going to his 50 with help from the long on fielder who let the ball go through his hands for four. Rye struck a few more out of the middle before being caught and bowled smashing one straight back to the bowler for 85. Billy Lavelle and James McCrery saw the innings home, each getting 9*. Thrumpton ended on 162-6.

In all honesty Mountsorrel’s batsmen smashed the bowling around and demoralised the team. Sadly a run chase was never on the cards.

The “TFC” award went to Paul Burns, who despite not getting a bat or a bowl, was just happy to be there.
