Last Friday saw the Thrumpton KWIKs take part in the first round of matches in the Leics & Rutland KWIK Cricket League.

So Friday night is the new evening where you can see the Thrumpton KWIKs in action in the Leics & Rutland League.

Round 1 saw the KWIKs travel to Grace Dieu to face both the hosts and also Shepshed Town.

Up first was Shepshed, after agreement between the coaches this match became a 10 a side game.

Thrumpton won the toss and skipper Sam T had no hesitation in fielding first.

Some fantastic bowling and fielding saw Shepshed post only 201 for 4 from their 8 overs as runs were hard to come by in the crowded outfield.

For those that don't know how the scoring works, each team starts on 200 and loses 5 runs for each wicket that they lose.

The target of 201 proved no problem for Thrumpton though as, only losing 2 wickets, the badgers finished on 229 for 2.

Up next was our hosts Grace Dieu, Sam once again won the toss and fielded first.

Once again the fielding and bowling was superb as Grace Dieu finished on 186 for 4.

This meant that as long as Thrumpton didn't lose many wickets they had a good chance of winning. Some fantastic shots from all the players saw Thrumpton finish on 257 for 2.

A victory of 71 runs was secured and the Badgers started with 2 wins out of 2!

What a fantastic start to what could be a great season with a very inexperienced side.

Well done to all those taking part, especially those playing in a tournament for the very first time.

Round 2 will see us travel to neighbours Kegworth on Friday 16 May as we take on both the hosts and also Hathern Old.

All supporters are welcome!
