Thurnby Nirvana 2 – 1 Desborough Town

Thurnby were forced into yet more changes from their win in midweek. Kallon replaced the injured Flinders in goal and Potter started up front for the suspended Melbourne.

The game was played at a subdued pace for most of the first half with neither side producing much quality Thurnby’s best chance falling to Potter who failed to convert from 10 yards when well placed.

On 35 minutes Desborough got an unlikely breakthough with their first meaningful attack. A swift break from a Thurnby corner found Cummins in the box who beat his man and although his original shot was well saved by Kallon he managed to convert the rebound.

Half Time - Thurnby Nirvana 0-1 Desborough Town.

Mwanyongo and Phillip replaced Baines and Potter at half time. Thurnby knew they had to improve massively if they were to salvage anything from this game. They continued to try everything to find an equalizer and eventually their efforts paid off. On 80 minutes King produced a magical finish to grab his side the equalizer. Morris crossed from the left and although the ball was behind him King managed to acrobatically hook the ball over his shoulder into the corner of the net.
Moments later Thurnby were in front. Substitute Sean Phillips drove at the Desborough defence eventually playing in Morris who’s shot was well saved by the Desborough keeper with King on hand to follow up to put the ball into an empty net.

Full Time - Thurnby Nirvana 2 – 1 Desborough Town.

Desborough will be disappointed to come away with nothing from this game. Thurnby were not at their best but their will to win got them there in the end.

Man Of The Match – Pretty easy decision. Lynas King. In a game with plenty of average performances the midfielder stood out as anything but. Played in numerous different positions giving his all in every one. The first of his two goals was very special. A deserved MOM.
