The record holder for the greatest number of appearances in a Purfleet/Thurrock shirt is Jimmy McFarlane. Jimmy made his debut for the then Purfleet on 12 August 1991 against Southall in an Isthmian League Division Two fixture. He then went on to make 632 appearances before playing his last game on 27 April 2006 against Maidenhead United in the Conference South.
Jimmy was a dominating central defender and an inspirational leader and very dangerous at set pieces which saw him score 75 goals in his time with the club. His very first goal coming on his debut against Southall. The total appearances may have well have been higher had it not been for a freak training accident when he suffered a broken leg which kept him out of the game for a season and a half. He also had a short time away from the club playing most of the 1996-97 season at Concord Rangers.
Jimmy returned to the club for the start of the 1997-98 season when Colin McBride was appointed manager staying until April 2006 when he followed McBride to AFC Hornchurch. He played on for a little while before taking over as manager, a position he holds today.
Without doubt Jimmy played a huge part in Purfleet and Thurrock's history and deservedly sits at the top of the tree with his appearance record.
