Thurrock 0 - 1 Dulwich Hamlet
Thurrock defeated by a single goal
A number of changes to Thurrock’s squad after the FA Trophy exit on Tuesday sees debuts for Oshane Brown and Jeremiah Kamanzi to face top of the table Dulwich Hamlet.
It is Thurrock who have the better start and make a number of chances in the opening fifteen minutes. They work the ball across the midfield from right to left, Ronnie Winn’s ball into the area is deflected for a corner. The corner is half cleared and Joel Nouble skims the upright from thirty yards. Winn battles to win the ball and gets a touch to get the ball to Nouble again, a neat pass between the defenders gives Dennis Oli sight on goal but straight at Dulwich ‘keeper Preston Edwards. Lewwis Spence intercepts the ball and plays a one-two with Oli before shooting across the face of goal but wide of the far post. A minute later and Winn hits the outside of the upright.
As the half wears on Dulwich Hamlet work their way back into the game and the contest becomes more even. A strong shot from the right hand side of the box sees Brown stick out a foot to push the ball wide of the post and shortly after George Winn blocks a shot from the opposite flank. The game is truly end to end as Dennis Oli wriggles into the area before his path is blocked by the defence and the ball cleared downfield and again George Winn is in the way to deflect the ball onto the crossbar.
Lewwis Spence and Charlie Stimson hunt as a pair to win the ball in the middle of the pitch to set up Joe Christou, his shot from distance clears the bar. The goal kick leads to an opportunity blocked by Jordan Clark. Dulwich get their goal with five minutes remaining in the half. Reise Allassani cuts in from the left and his shot finds its way past Oshane Brown. Thurrock nearly equalise as Ronnie Winn floats a corner deep into the box for Spence to hit a sublime volley, it hits a defender on the line and bounces to safety.
Half Time: Thurrock 0 - 1 Dulwich Hamlet
The interval does not diminish either side as Hamlet hit the post inside the first minute and Thurrock respond as Ronnie Winn carries the ball out of defence and finds Nouble on the wing, Nouble travels across the area and cuts the ball inside to Oli, his shot is deflected wide.
Ten minutes in and George Winn blocks a powerful shot on the line, his clearance hits Brown on the way out before Winn again clears off the line but there is a worrying few minutes as Brown remains unmoving on the ground before unsteadily leaving the field of play to be replaced by James Scammell. (Brown was later reported to be groggy but otherwise ok).
Ronnie Winn once more sets off on a foray down the left wing and once again finds an outlet in Nouble. Nouble holds the ball before feeding Kamanzi but his shot hits Stimson on its way through and sting is taken off the effort and easily gathered by Edwards who immediately sets Hamlet off on a break which is well covered by James Goode who shepherds the ball out for a goal kick.
Thurrock continue to try and get something from the game and continually press forwards. Christou flicks a header back to Kamanzi but his shot is dragged wide. Stimson has his back to goal at the edge of the area then spins and shoots, Oli nearly gets a touch which would surely have gone in but the ball goes through to Edwards. Nouble charges across the pitch to collect the ball which he plays backwards into acres of space inviting Ronnie Winn to run onto and strike first time but it is charged down. Christou again flicks a header into the area for Stimson to chase down, Stimson and Edwards collide heavily and the striker is momentarily winded.
An encouraging display against one of the league favourites.
