Thurrock 3 - 0 Lowestoft Town
By Dom Baker
This midweek Bostik Premier League tie saw the Fleet attempt to get back to back wins against 14th place Lowestoft Town. Thurrock were a confident bunch following their impressive win against top half Harrow Borough last time out.
On the 3rd minute Thurrock carved out their first chance. Remi Sutton fired a pass into Ronnie Winn who span and threaded the ball to Charlie Stimson. The striker was denied by a last-ditch block from the keeper. A good move from the Fleet who showed early signs of impressive build-up play.
The home side also had the second chance of the game just moments later. It was Sutton again who started it and the left-back also finished it. Remi Sutton found Stimson who held the ball up and back-heeled it to find the overlapping run. Sutton finished first time across the keeper.

Once again Thurrock attacked, neat build up play saw Joel Nouble shoot from the left hand side. The blocked shot fell to Ronnie Winn who slammed the crossbar with a half volley. The Fleet could have had 2 in as many minutes in a lightning quick start to the game.
On the 11 minute mark the hosts came forward once more. Joe Christou led a counter attack and found Ronnie Winn who drove into the box, jinked past his man and shot hard with his left. The effort beat the keeper but was smothered and cleared off the line!
Thurrock were winning their individual battles, or at least drawing fouls from them. It was clear that Saturday’s result had given them a boost.
On the 28th minute Thurrock would extend their lead. A corner was whipped in by Jamie Price into a crowded box of yellow shirts. Spence took the ball down and flicked it with his heel through hapless defenders. The goalkeeper could only watch as the deflected effort rolled into the bottom corner.

Thurrock got the breathing space their play warranted but didn’t look like slowing down, Lowestoft weren’t given the chance to get going.
The first booking of the evening came as a result of Ronnie Winn’s tireless runs in behind. Travis Cole failed the clear the ball on the first opportunity and dragged Winn down once the striker snuck in. The Fleet’s front three of Winn, Nouble and Stimson were giving the Lowestoft back 5 a tough time, leading wave after wave of attack.
HALF TIME: THURROCK 2-0 LOWESTOFT TOWN
5 minutes into the second half and Thurrock got their third. Ronnie Winn was unlucky not to grab himself a goal in the first period but he put that right from the restart.
A long ball forward caught Travis Cole out once again but this time Winn wriggled free and cut in on his left foot. The shot took a nick off an attempted block from Rory McAuley and bounced into the bottom corner.

The Fleet showed no signs of slowing down after the break. Stimson could have added to the list of scorers in the 60th minute when he connected well with a deep Winn free kick. The effort grazed the crossbar.
Lowestoft’s first chance of the half came through the substitute Josh Greenleafe. His late run into the box was picked out by Jarvis. Greenleafe squared the ball to Shaun Bammant who smashed the bar first time with an empty net ahead of him. Thurrock got away with one and responded with a substitution as Dennis Oli replaced goal scorer Ronnie Winn.
The substitute almost made an instant impact when he met a Reece Morgan cross. The striker’s acrobatic flick was cleared off the line by Travis Cole. Thurrock made their second change of the night, with 10 minutes to go, as Charlie Stimson made way for Aruna Kamara.
The captain almost got his second of the game with time winding down as he saw his 20-yard effort well saved by the Lowestoft number 1. The Fleet were still looking for more goals. Joel Nouble went close moments later when his shot from the left was deflected just over. In the dying seconds of additional time Dennis Oli almost got Thurrock’s 4th. The striker worked a yard before striking across goal but the keeper got down well to deny him.
