Mackriel Wants Whitley Work Rate

Tigers NIHL News

Tigers NIHL travel north to Whitley Bay this weekend and, with the Moralee conference the tightest it’s been in years, the two points will be vital to both teams. Just three points separate the Tigers at the bottom of the league, from the Warriors in fourth place.

Whitley have picked up one point from their last two games, drawing with first placed Solway Sharks and losing away at second placed Billingham Stars last Sunday. Tigers have also played the two top teams in the division with similar results recently, although disappointed not to have taken both points last Saturday against the Stars, after conceding late in the game.

Tigers will, however, take confidence with them to Whitley Bay after those results last weekend, where they picked up two points on the road against the Deeside Dragons and led for most of the game against an impressive Stars team.

Tigers NIHL coach Daniel Mackriel commented, “Last weekend we played with high intensity and desire and were unfortunate not to have taken all four points on offer.

"We’ve played Whitley twice so far this season, drawing in the Bay and winning at home. The Warriors have a good side and play a physical style of hockey. It's a tough place to go and we’ll have to be at our best to take anything from the game.

"We still have 10 points to play for and if we can match the work rate of last weekend, I know we can climb the table and stay in this division."
