Tilbury 1 Chelmsford City 3 (Attendance 103)

Tilbury exited the Essex Senior Cup against Conference South side Chelmsford City on Tuesday evening on a cold crisp evening at Chadfields. Manager Paul Vaughan went with attacking options to upset the out of form Chelmsford side. The game also saw another century for the Dockers as Conor Mead made his 100th appearance for the club and took over the captain’s armband. The Dockers started very strong and surprised there visitors on 2 minutes when Mead crossed for Babalola to set up Nathan Ashton in space to fire home. Within a minute Chelmsford had a good effort when Hughes had his effort well saved by Ramos.
In the 6th minute Chelmsford were back on level terms when Rainford was brought down in the box by Christou. Rainsford dusted himself down to hit home.
On 9 St Aime was again denied by the excellent Ramos before on 15 a corner from the right was not cleared and the ball fell to Tom Derry to score. Nathan Ashton’s dipping effort from the edge of the area 3 minutes later flew inches over the bar.
Chelmsford pushed to increase the lead, but were denied numerous times by in form keeper Ramos. Just before the break Ashton saw his effort just go wide.
The visitors increased the lead on 54 when a corner fell to St Aime to score despite Ramos being upended in his 6 yard box. Tilbury made changes, but Chelmsford kept possession of the ball well in the final quarter and it saw the Clarets make smooth progress to Round 4.
After the game Manager Paul Vaughan commented. "I was pleased with our overall performance in particular in the first half and need to take this into our league programme"

Tilbury return to league action on Saturday when they welcome basement side Waltham Forest to Chadfields 3pm kick off.
