Tilbury went out of the FA Youth cup on Thursday night with an entertaining 2-1 defeat to local rivals Aveley.
Tilbury were unchanged from the previous round. It was Aveley that took the lead after 19 when a Jack Knox's run, was saved, but Mattius Tonking hit home. 2 minutes later Lewis Grantham's effort was brilliantly saved, before the same player struck the bar on the half hour.
The second half was a tight affair, with chances at a premium. Regan Mead went close late on, before a serious injury to Jake Barrett delayed the game for 10 minutes as he was stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle. Once played resumed Aveley scored again when Jack Knox finished well to double the lead.
Late in to injury time Regan Mead pulled a goal back and with just 2 minutes remaining Tilbury went all out attack, but could not get back into the game. Aveley hung on and play a home tie against Redbridge in the next round.
