Tilbury 2 Brentwood 0

Tilbury scored 2 late goals to take the spoils in a competitive match at Chadfields to start the new Ryman North season.

With manager Paul Vaughan in the stands, he will be delighted with the effort the players gave him. In a quiet opening and played at times in heavy rain, both sides cancelled each other out and it took 11 minutes for the first effort on goal when the effective Bradley Barnes hit just wide. Ted Llewellyn had a long range effort minutes later which was saved well by home keeper James Marrable.

Both sides were never out of the game and had chances going into the break. Brentwood striker Jose Espindse had two good chances which were saved by Marrable. The same player had the best chance of the game on 61 when he blazed over from 12 yards. With the sun now shinning over Chadfields, Tilbury then with Gary Henty winning the midfield battles, it came as no surprise when a good run down the left from Bradley Barnes on 85, crossed and found captain Henty to volley home. With 2 minutes remaining it was 2-0, when substitute Jack West turned on the edge of the area and rifled home into the bottom corner. This delighted the vocal Tilbury supporters, who applauded the team off at the end. .

After the game, Tilbury Assistant Manager Terry Hornsby commented "We defended well at the back, at times the game was very even, but we wore down our opponents and was happy with some of the performances on the day. A deserved victory" The Dockers go to Enfield Town on Tuesday night in good heart. 7.45pm kick off (Game to be played at Cheshunt FC)
