November 2011 Review

Two 4-1’s, a 7-3, 3 cup matches and a Christening in November saw Tints go out of two more cups leaving them in only the Alex Woodcock Cup.

November proved to be an incredibly strenuous month on the squad size of the team as Tints managed to get only 12 men together for their County cup match with Chilton. With Ross Topping suffering an Ankle injury and Matt Watson in Dubai, Tints were very light in the middle of the park and at the sharp end with 4 centre halfs starting the game, 2 in defense and 2 in midfield. After taking an early lead, Tints were eventually out worked and out classed on the day by Chilton who just sat back and watched Tints fold in on themselves to eventually leave Washington with a comfortable 4-1 victory and knock Tints out of the County Cup.

Next up were the Bridge in the A Division Cup, Matt Watson and a half fit Ross Topping returned to the squad but Kris Thompson, Alex Fife and Lewis Bays were all unable to make the game leaving Tints with 11 players and Ross as an emergency substitute. The Bridge scored with their first attack of the game but Tints fought back to finish the half the stronger of the two sides with the game level at 1-1. With two wingers in Gavin Teasdale and Ross Allsopp playing in Centre midfield there was plenty of attacking creativity on show for Tints, but without the ball and without a tough tackling centre midfielder, they were ultimately left more and more exposed at the back as The Bridge took full advantage to win the game 7-3 in the end.

Hedworth Hall in the Alex Woodcock Cup of the B Division offered a chance to build some confidence for the lads and that’s exactly what they did running out comfortable 4-1 winners. Goals from Craig Jonas, Matt Watson, Gareth Topping, and Gavin Matthews saw Tints score 2 in each half with Hedworth slotting home a debatable penalty on the stroke of half time. With two subs to bring on aswell as the signing of Chris Day who has yet to be available on a Sunday due to work, Tints will be hoping this is the start of a return to numbers to generate competition and hopefully a return to form as we head towards December.

With only 6 league games played and only losing to 2nd and 3rd, if we can sort ourselves out we can still do a lot of damage in this league, its only November and the season is far far from over yet but we need to start making an impression sooner rather than later. Chris Day signing is a major boost as he will be a like for like replacement for Cox upfront. Another few new faces to arrive in the new year should see us in great shape as we look to build some momentum, get ourselves into the right half of the table, and then look to put some pressure on the teams at the top.
