September 2011 Review

Tints turned their slow start to the season around with three fine wins in September. A league victory against the White Horse was sandwiched by two County Cup fixtures as the Great North run prevented any football from being played for a weekend in between.
Tints travelled to Hartlepool first of all, Ross Topping had been itching to get further up the pitch from the get go and he was granted his reward for the County Cup game against MBM Greenside. After a solid spell in defense for ross and a solid display from his name sake Gareth in midfield, the two reversed roles for September and they seemed to relish in their new old roles.
Gareth struck up a great partnership with tints captain Stephen Rutter and Ross ran the show with 2 goals and 2 assists in the 2 games that he played midfield in September, the other he was unavailable. Tints took off with a creamer of a first ever goal from Liam Alexander, the midfielder was playing his second last game of the season before shooting off to Australia with fellow midfielder Andy Lowe until the back end of the season. It was a day for first goals of the season as Liam, Ross Topping and Martin Rutter all notched their first goals of the new campaign, and Tints notched their first ever goal in the County Cup, ironically through first time scorer Alexander. A goal from Gareth Topping, an own goal, and a hat-trick from Danny Cox secured an 8-0 thumping of Hartlepool MBM Greenside, exactly the kind of response the team and the manager was looking for after a very poor August. A first clean sheet of the season to boot and things were suddenly starting to look a little bit brighter.
A crucial second game of the month saw Tints travel to 100% former premier division side White Horse. It was a tough task to begin with made tougher by the losses of goalkeeper Binney, midfielder Ross Topping, striker Matt Watson and defenders Lee Thompson and Alex Fife. With Gavin Matthews suspended for the whole month aswell, Cox would again shoulder the goal scoring responsibilities with Kris Thompson slotting into a supporting left sided role in a lop sided attack. Liam Alexander was playing his final game for the Tintas and as usual he didn’t disappoint. Cox picked up where he left off with two more goals in this one, with Teasdale’s penalty and two calm finishes from Kris Thompson securing a 5-3 away victory against one of the front runners. At one point it was 5-1 but the White Horse battled on and deservedly pulled the score closer in the end. It all proved to be in vein though as Tints came out with a much needed three points and first league victory of the season against probably the best side they have faced this season.
With a rather untimely week off for the Great North Run, tints were keen to get on with things and after a couple more promising training sessions, a few more players back in the picture such as Phil Taylor, Lewis Bays and Matt Watson, competition was finally starting to heat up. The next and final game of September came the following week against Darlington side The Deacon FC in the County Cup, another chance for Tints to eradicate another monkey off their shoulder and secure a first home win.
Phil Taylor replaced Liam Alexander who is now “down under” and Lee Thompson was brought in at left back to replace the injured Craig Jonas. Connor was back between the posts and a very rare Kris Thompson holiday handed a start out wide left to Robbie Fowler himself, Matt Watson. Ross Topping came in for his name sake Ross Allsopp in the centre of the park to partner Tea and Phil in a strong looking midfield. The Deacon seemed nervous in this one, as Tints built up a 2-0 lead through first half Martin Rutter and Danny Cox strikes. Gareth Topping, Ross Topping, Matt Watson and a first of the season for substitute Ross Allsopp saw Tints lead 6-0 at one stage, only for two well taken finishes late on to bring the final score a little closer at 6-2.
19 goals scored, 5 conceded, 3 wins, a 100% month for Tints was just the turn around needed after the slow start they endured in August. October brings only one league fixture again, right at the end of the month against newly promoted Wardles with four different cup games to enjoy before then. An Alex Woodcock cup game against fellow A Division side Westoe Fc, followed by a League cup game against Boldon Fc who drew with Tints on the opening day in the League. Sanford and Goudie Cup next sees Tints face Brighams who they narrowly lost in a pre season friendly to, before that one though is another County cup game with the opposition yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
Tints will now move back to the school for training as the nights become too dark to train at the F Pit.
September also saw the birth of little baby Anna. Nice one Mick.
