Titans v Tanglin Black
Titans push Tanglin all the way
So the season finally started for the Titans with their first match against a crack Tanglin side.
Add the core 8 guys who have been training for just a month, a new player who only joined the week before, and a boost from 3 brave under eights ready to play the bigger boys = 12 committed and proud Titans ready to take the pitch.
Tanglin were very sporting and gracious and lent the Titans four subs so the Tanglin guys could match their opponents with subs.
The game started in the worst possible way with the lack of game time and playing numbers (Titans had not yet packed a scrum in training) showing as Tanglin ran in 5 tries in the first 15 minutes.
The Titan boys started to grow confidence and the attacking runs, rucking and tackling began. The result? A try just before half time by one of the Tanglin boys playing for the Titans (nice work Jem) which came off a rampaging run from Slade.
The half time break proved the difference as the Titans, who had caught their breath having quickly learned from Tanglin how to play quality rugby with the ball in hand, vowed they would not let in any more tries.
And so it proved as the Titans more than matched their opponents in the second half with attacking runs from Faruq, Kaleb, Azryfan and Slade culminating in the first Titan try of the year to Slade and the Titans 'winning' the second half.
The final score 25 -10 and lots of smiles from both sides.
Man of the match was Alfie who tackled everything in sight and showed the benefit of the tackling drills the coaches had been working but the heroes are all 12 lads who learned a lot on the day.
