Cheddar too strong for Tor II
Entertaining game sees 15 tries
Cheddar 1st XV- 68
Tor II XV - 35
Tor arrived at a cold windy Cheddar pitch with a rather depleted side and few replacements.
Some miscommunication meant that Cheddar were allowed to use rolling replacements, of which they had a great number. From the start Cheddar were strong and well drilled up front. Some lack lustre tackling allowed them 2 score 2 quick tries both were converted. A stiff talking to from Skipper Ackroyd gave TOR a much needed boost. Some strong mauling from TOR secured ball from a Cheddar attack. This was quickly spun wide and against the run of play Andy Lawford raced 40m past several cheddar tacklers to score under the posts. Matt Coley converted. This reward enthused TOR and the next 20 minutes saw TOR competing evenly and exchanging tries with cheddar. Ackroyd broke his duck and scored his first try for the season. again Coley converted.
At half time the rolling replacements started and TOR had to dig in to hold back the tide of fresh legs.
A very enjoyable game was had by both teams aided by a very competent referee, who was firm but fair.
Matt Hole at No 8 ended a typical driving run with a try and coley converted. Further tries were still achieved in the second half by Tom Browning - stamp and Lewis Edwards who drove over from short range after 5-6 phases of play. Again Coley converted everything 15 tries and a sprinkling of penalties in all entertained the afternoons spectators.
