Totnes Rugby Club 1st XV without a league game over the festive season, played an Invitation side led by Tim Woodward at Borough Park on Boxing day afternoon.
It was certainly a day to clear those Christmas cobwebs, as Storm Dylan turned the game into a mud bath with driving rain and strong gales.
However, it did not stop the Totnes die-hard supporters, who wrapped up well and brought their own hot toddies with them to cheer on the teams.
This was a game with no kicking, so only hand to hand passing was allowed, so even in the storm, the players had no option but to run the ball which made it an exciting game to watch.
It was the club's 1st XV who took the honours with a late try to pull the game out of the bag with a 17-12 win.

The invitation XV came back strongly in the second half and Captain Tim Woodward scored two tries but it was not enough to clinch the game.
Club chairman Lex Keen who turned out for the Invitation XV said after the game. " This was not a day to play Rugby , due to the atrocious weather conditions. It was played in true spirit of club Rugby, where on the field we took no prisoners, but after the mud bath we all shared a beer and a laugh in the club"
