centurions stay unbeaten
A good win for Tows Bletchley cluster
In preparation for their first league game of the season on the 11th November a mixed Bletchley and Tows team took on last seasons area 2 league champions Harpenden.
The game was played in 3 20 min periods giving both teams plenty of opportunity to blood new players and try players in new positions.
From the kick off the Tows, Bletchley team put Harpenden on the back foot, a turn over on the half way line saw Annabelle Luntz playing at number 7 for the first time, break away for the first of 3 her tries. The next try came only minutes later when Captain Bella Taylor side stepped her way through the Harpenden line to sprint from the middle of the pitch to score under the posts. Prop Ellie Corby slotting over the conversion.
Harpenden wasn't going to take this lying down and started to put Tows under some serious pressure. Great tackling from the Bletchley/Tows team kept them off the try line. A brilliant piece of counter rucking saw the ball shipped along the back line for a try by Bletchleys second row Kirstin. The first period finished 17-0.
The start of the second period saw 6 changes for Bletch/Tows and Harpenden began fighting their way back into the game. Scoring the next 2 tries converting both.Tows next try was a sight to behold. Caitlin Donhoue breaking away from her half was caught just inside Harpendens 22, supported by Anna Woodman who was tackled just off the try line she presented the ball for what would be Annabelle luntz easiest try.22-14 at the end of the second period.
The third period saw both teams giving it their all. Scrum Half Ellie Harrison one of the smallest players on the pitch having one of the highest work rates. A third and final try by Annabelle luntz was another piece of individual skill. With most of the more experienced Tows players off the pitch the new girls upped their game and defended like demons Daisy Boyce getting some crunching tackles in. A driving maul under the post pulled another back for Harpenden. From the restart Harpenden took the game back to Tows but an unnecessary kick went straight to speedy winger Kelcay who ran it straight back at them for the final try of the game.
Final score 32-19 . An enjoyable and well fought game .
