Match Report: Peterborough 20 - 6 Towcestrians
Boro pack too strong for Tows
Towcestrians faced a tough away test at Peterborough in this Midlands 1 East league clash, the weather didn't help either with bitterly cold and wet conditions, Tows playing into the teeth of it in the first half, the opening looked very even but in a complete reversal of Tows last league game against Paviors, where Tows pack dominated but the Paviors backs did the damage, Boro's pack took control in the scrums and began to dictate the play and create chances, this lead to converted Peterboro try as they broke down the blind side for their winger to go in, Peterborough penned Tows in for the remainder of the half but only had a penalty to show for their efforts and Tows turned around, very much in the game, 10 - 0 the deficit at half-time.
Tows started the second half brightly, James Falvey kicking a long range penalty, but this was soon answered by the Boro fly half with a kick of his own, Tows had decent periods of possession throughout the half but were unable to convert any real chances, Falvey kicking a second penalty to close the gap to 13 - 6 but Boro made the game safe when a grubber through was touched down for the decisive score and for the home side to go above Tows in the table to eighth.
Tows Director of Rugby, Robbie George, looked for positives after the game "despite the tough conditions in the first half we were pleased to turn around with a 10 - 0 scoreline, Peterborough's dominance of the set piece though really starved us of quality ball and we struggled without any quick ball, we spent long periods in the second half attacking but just couldn't turn that into tries, I absolutely can't fault the commitment or effort of our lads though and very excited by the debut of scrum-half Sam Pamment"
Tows 2nd XV fielded a very youthful side (apart from the bench) giving senior rugby playing time to 5 colts, and were narrowly beaten in a highly competitive game to Birmingham & Solihull 2's by two tries to one, 7 - 14, Dave Devlin-Jones returning from injury to score Tows try.
