A Win On The Road In Very Windy Conditions
After only one game last week and the first team being rested there would be an abundance of players looking for a game.
With no 1st team game and everyone who played last week being rested we managed to get out 2 side to play 2nd's and 3rd's. Unfortunately the 3rd team game was call of with Sharnbrook unable to field a side and anyone wanting a game was welcomed into the second team.
This meant a complete replacement set of forwards would have been available before the usual drop off before lunch.
Towcester playing into the wind decide to receive from the kickoff, Olney kicked low and Tows took on the defence with recycled ball in the forwards opening up the space for David Williams coming back from injury to score the first points of the day. 5 minutes later the forwards had their opportunity to score . Ed Penn
from a pick and drive worm his way to the try line.
Towcesters next two scores where purely down to the pace that both these players have. Cam young broke through a few missed tackles to score next and Gus Hopewell
just left the defence floundering in his wake.
The home side eventually after a missed tackle broke through the defence for their first followed by a complete opportunist hack and chase for the second.
Half time and a few changes lead to a slower start to the half . It took 15 minutes until Rohan Griggs
chipped the ball forward managing to control the ball with his feet till he crossed the line. Callum Garwood
managed to slot the extras kicking with the wind.
Cam Young got his second after simple hands and running straight opened up the defence.
The pack had been dominant all afternoon as a five metre scrum was driven over the try line for Marc Yeates
to fall on the ball for his second of the season and possibly the shortest.
The final score of the day went to Harry Sturley
through pure determination as he twisted and turned to score.
A great game to watch as the players gel'd together and out performed the opposition.
We look forward to meeting them in the Lewis Shield when hopefully we will have more backs available when player come back from injury.
