Old Heads Young Legs

This week Tows Development side played at ON's and with the previous meeting leaving a sour taste in defeat the lads wanted to prove that the big ON's side were not going to have it their own way . There was 3 factors that the Tows had to bare in mind the wind , slope on the pitch and a big front 5, The front 3 made our boys look like Dwarf's with Anorexia and this showed when we set for the first scrum of the game which the Tows got smashed until they started to find a weakness the ON's armour and it soon started to balanced out, 9mins into the first half Sam Sturley found the space in the far left corner to get the 1st try of the game but Callum Garwood's conversion couldn't reach the sticks due the strong wind blowing directly at him. The ON's soon hit back on the 14 min with their backs catching the Tows out with their speed 7-5 we both teams holding their own the game was fast and in favour for the Tows as they made several breaks and one well played attack to get over the white wash and the ref to call the ball held up ( Not Helpful ). The last few minutes of the first half the Tows defence which had been good all season took another hit from the ON's to score again and but missed the conversion half time 12-5 down.

The second half soon got underway only for ON's to score within a minute of play and this wasn't in the plan to concede any more points in this game 19-5 down and and it looked like there was no way back but with old heads and young legs in the side the Tows did exactly what I thought they would do like any wounded animal they Attacked but the attack didn't stop and the ON's couldn't cope and cracks appeared quickly and this saw Fullback Alex Chalcraft make one of his stunning runs straight through the middle of the pitch to score a well deserved try and with the wind behind him kicker Callum Garwood got the ball through the sticks 19-12 he comes the comeback . Time for fresh legs Rob Lees on for hard working Michael King and Dave Sanders for Callum Garwood , Tyler Aris off for Ali Haynes to make his mark against a very large prop. With the scrum settling down and the Tows winning the scrums this gave us the advantage to attack early and with Dave Sanders pushed to the wing and a fantastic windmill pass from Mark Yeates Dave sprinted untouched to score 19-17 with the game what we thought we had lost it was all down to the conversion but we failed to get it over final score 19-17, Thank you to all the supporters who came over to give support . I was told after the game that ON's had never experienced a team that battled as hard as we did and we never gave up yes we lost but Christ we made them shit there pants in the process , Well done to both Teams
Hit off the day goes to Dave Williams
Man of the Match wouldn't be fair as all the players played brilliant .
