Trentham remain dominant against a huge Newport squad.

Newport 09/10/2016

The under 7 Trentham boys were on the crest of a wave, following a fantastic performance at Stafford Festival the week before . A new challenge was set at Newport and the 'old boys' from last year stepped up to form a brand new under 8 team. The team consisted of Harvey, Jacob, Joseph, Mason, Sam, Stanley and Zeb. Newport RUFC was basking in a beautiful autumnal morning and the club boasts numerous pitches . We were directed to a huge pitch , which we all originally thought was for three teams ..only to realise the step up to the under 8 involved a much much bigger pitch !

The boys played three game against a considerably larger Newport squad .

The much larger pitch caused Trentham to raise their game , Stanley and Mason stuck to the wings whilst Zeb, Harvey , Jacob and Sam controlled the centre . Newport were clearly well coached and had great ball control and a disciplined defensive line but this still did not stop the tenacity and determination of the Trentham boys . Match 1 was dominated by Trentham and the score was 9-4 , Newport's coach rallied a new squad and attempted to frustrate Trenthams' speed on the wings but Trentham were resile and secured another victory . Match 3 was really hard on the now tired legs of the Trentham boys, Newport had the luxury of yet another fresh squad but The boys pushed on and managed to secure a draw.

The focus for todays game was to concentrate on creating space and passing the ball through as many hands as possible . There was some fantastic rugby on display with the final play. The offensive was gained and the boys were weaving through the Newport defence , Sam sidestepping and passing onto Jacob who charged through one then two, passing onto Mason who did the pass of the game ! Whilst being harried by Newport he looked to the wing and saw Zeb charging though, Zeb catches clean and scored a great try.

Real great effort by all players today, especially for Harvey , who only being at the club for a couple of weeks , is put to the test in an under 8 game. well done ! Joseph and Sam played a pivotal role dominating the centre and worked their magic on attempting to utilise new formations .

Man of the match is Jacob , purely because of his notable improvement.

The plan for development is to play the ball through the team and move away from single player glory to team work!

Well done all .
