From the start of the forthcoming 2012-13 season a number of law amendments will be trialled, which will have an impact on how our game is played and refereed. Details of all the laws being trialled globally can be found on the IRB Laws website by following this link: http://www.irblaws.com/2012/index.php?amendment=3. Details of all the laws being trialled will be included in the annual publication “ Guidelines to refereeing Domestic Rugby” which should be published by no later than 27th Jul and will be available on the SRU website referee download section.
Clubs are encouraged to contact their local Regional Referee Development Manager (RRDM) or make use of your club referees to help as all players and coaching staff get to grips with the new laws. Any questions regarding the new laws can be directed to your local RRDM. You can contact your RRDM here: http://www.scottishrugby.org/community/component/option,com_contact/catid,216/Itemid,78/
Meanwhile, the 2012 Review of Match Officials confirmed the necessity for a formal selection panel but that further thought should be given to reviewing the membership on a more regular basis. The review also recommended the panel should include a former club coach.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Match Officials' selection panel and assisting in the development of all officials, more details on this position can be found on the Scottish Rugby website: http://www.scottishrugby.org/aboutus/content/view/912/67/
